Product Introduction
Alcohol precipitation tanks are primarily used to carry out alcohol precipitation—either at low temperature or at ambient conditions—on concentrated aqueous extracts of traditional Chinese medicines. They can also be employed for water precipitation of concentrated solutions obtained after alcohol extraction. In addition, these tanks are suitable for processes involving the cold‑ or room‑temperature precipitation and solid–liquid separation of suspensions in other industries, such as food processing, pharmaceuticals (including oral liquids and health supplements), chemicals, and dyes. Typically, alcohol precipitation tanks are designed as slender stainless‑steel vessels with a conical bottom and a cone angle ranging from 60° to 90°; following alcohol precipitation, impurities settle at the cone base, while the clarified liquid is drawn off from the top.
Product Features
1. Installing a分流器 and employing an appropriate stirring speed ensure uniform dispersion of the added ethanol, enhancing the homogeneity of the ethanol–drug solution mixture and preventing localized high ethanol concentrations that could encapsulate the extract and lead to the formation of bulky precipitates.
2. Rapid precipitation and minimal loss of active ingredients.
3. The stirring device is custom-designed to suit the material’s characteristics, delivering high mixing efficiency; its drive components are manufactured with precision, ensuring smooth operation and low noise levels.
Working principle
Aqueous extracts of traditional Chinese medicinal materials often contain substantial amounts of starch, proteins, mucilages, resins, gums, pigments, and certain sugars. In the production of TCM preparations, it is essential to selectively remove these non‑pharmacological constituents while preserving the active ingredients, thereby enhancing the clarity of the extract, improving formulation stability, and reducing the required dosage. To achieve this, 1–4 volumes of ethanol are added to the aqueous extract or concentrated solution of the raw material, followed by standing to allow insoluble precipitates to settle. After recovering and removing the ethanol, the mixture is diluted with water to the specified concentration, filtered, and then filled, sealed, and sterilized. The underlying principle relies on the fact that certain bioactive components of TCM are soluble in both ethanol and water, enabling purification and enhancement of the final product’s quality. Typically, an ethanol concentration of 50%–60% can remove starch and similar impurities; at 75%, proteins can be eliminated; and at 80%, nearly all proteins, polysaccharides, inorganic salts, and other contaminants are removed. This leaves behind bioactive compounds—such as alkaloids, glycosides, amino acids, and organic acids—that are soluble in both water and ethanol. Consequently, the suitability of the alcohol precipitation process and its associated equipment directly impacts the safety, stability, and efficacy of TCM products, forming an inseparable part of the product’s dosage form and overall quality profile.
