Product Introduction

Molecular distillation is a specialized, fully automated liquid–liquid separation and extraction‑concentration technology. Unlike conventional distillation, which relies on differences in boiling points, molecular distillation is governed by the molecular weights of the components in the mixture, enabling operation well below the boiling point. The greater the difference in molecular weights, the larger the disparity in mean free paths, resulting in a purer distillate. Here, the mean free path (denoted by λ) refers to the distance a molecule travels between successive collisions.

Under high-vacuum conditions, the liquid mixture flows along the heated plate and is heated. Due to the differing mean free paths of molecules with different molecular weights, the extent of their mean free paths between the vaporization surface and the condensation surface—and consequently their degrees of evaporation—varies significantly. Lighter components have longer mean free paths, whereas heavier components have shorter ones, allowing the lighter fractions to reach and condense on the condensation plate, where they are collected along the plate. In contrast, the heavier components, unable to reach the condensation plate, remain on the heating plate, thereby achieving separation of the various constituents.

Product Features

Molecular distillation, as a cutting-edge separation technology on par with international standards, offers advantages that are unmatched by other separation methods:

1. Operation at temperatures well below the material’s boiling point, with short residence times, facilitates the separation of high-boiling, heat-sensitive, and easily oxidizable materials.

2. It effectively removes substances such as organics and odorous compounds from liquids, making it a highly efficient method for solvent removal from extractant‑treated liquids.

3. It allows selective evaporation of volatile products while removing other impurities, and multi-stage separation can simultaneously separate two or more substances.

4. It can effectively remove light‑molecular substances (deodorization), heavy‑molecular substances (decolorization), and impurities from mixtures.

5. The separation process is a physical one, which effectively protects the separated substances from contamination and, in particular, preserves the original quality of natural extracts.

6. There is no boiling or bubbling; molecular distillation involves free evaporation at the liquid–vapor interface and is carried out under low pressure, with no dissolved air in the liquid. Consequently, the entire liquid does not boil during the distillation process, and no bubbling occurs.

7. High separation efficiency, exceeding that of conventional distillation and standard thin-film evaporators;

8. It is easy to establish continuous production, and operation is simple.

9. Molecular distillation features a short evaporation path, with an average molecular free path typically not exceeding 25 mm, resulting in low energy consumption.

10. The feed tank can optionally be equipped with a preheating function, and the preheating temperature is adjustable.

11. Each interface is sealed with a fluororubber gasket, ensuring excellent air tightness; if corrosion resistance is required, it can be replaced with a PTFE‑based material.

Product Applications

It can replace conventional falling-film evaporators and is used for the distillation, purification, concentration, and decolorization of petrochemical and chemical products.

It is particularly suitable for the distillation and purification of heat‑sensitive, easily oxidized chemical products.

It can also be used for the distillation and separation of high-boiling-point products.

Typical Applications

1. Distillation and refining of polyunsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid, linolenic acid, fish oil fatty acids—ethyl esters—and their derivatives);

2. Refining of monoglycerides;

3. Purification of dimer acid;

4. Purification of VE and phytosterols;

5. Distillation of liquid crystals;

6. Removal of monomers from polymeric polymers;

7. Purification of other heat-sensitive products;
